EXPERIENCE

JULY 2010 - APRIL 2014 - FACTORY MEDIA

ART EDITOR - RIDE UK BMX MAGAZINE

Ride UK BMX Magazine was up until late 2014 the UK's market leading print BMX magazine. Now it's 100% focused online and has since ceased in the print industry with an aim to push it's web based readership and moving forward in the world of instant, on demand, online publishing.
My title as art editor while working at Ride UK BMX Magazine was to over look and design all elements of the magazine, online and offline.
BMX is Freestyle and freestyle is creativity, and this understanding extends throughout the sport. I've lived and breathed the sport from an early age and experimenting and having fun with design is retrospectively similar. BMX has a young and very style conscious contingent and there for it is easy to fall in to the uncool categories. My job was to make sure that the magazine always kept looking edgy fresh and inspired, without looking a mess.
Being an Art Editor has been by far the most rewarding and fruitful years of my career. I took over in July 2010 and completely redesigned the magazine. Every element of design was in my hands. Not just the printed pages but also working with the web design team so that online visually reflected the look of magazine. I developed creative working relationships with contributors, liaised with marketing teams about brand development, worked with publishers on cover designs, rebuilt page grids to speed up work flow and hit deadlines demands with 100% efficiency. I also dealt with all reproduction demands, converting content to pre-press final PDF's, liaising with the printers and uploading all content for final print. They were some tough deadlines but it was a well rewarded gig resulting in a great publication.

SEP 2006 - JULY 2010 - DENNIS PUBLISHING

DEPUTY ART EDITOR - BIZARRE MAGAZINE

Working for Bizarre Magazine was a challenging, interesting and diverse job. Bizarre was a celebration of all things different, offering an uncensored view of the world and lifting the lid on things other magazines run screaming from. I was responsible for the design of magazine features and regular editorial pages.
This consisted of working in co-operation with an art editor to design features, commission illustrations and direction for cover and feature photo shoots.

NOV 2003 - SEP 2006 - FUTURE PUBLISHING

DEPUTY ART EDITOR - MOUNTAIN BIKING UK

Working as deputy art editor for Mountain Biking
UK was a fun, rewarding and challenging roll. MBUK (as it's more commonly known) is the UK's leading mountain biking sports publication.
I was responsible for feature design, page layout, template design and photo direction for products
and on location.

MAY 2002 - AUG 2003 - CSL PUBLISHING

ART EDITOR - SPORTS BOAT & RIB

AD DESIGNER - JET SKIER & PW

This was my first taste of the magazine design industry, and where in turn I cut my teeth. I was responsible for the artistic design of Sportsboat & RIB Magazine and also the advertising design of Jetskier & PW Magazine. CSL Publishing is a small family owned publishing company who kindly bestowed the responsibility of Art Editor on to me.
